"Looking Behind” is a mixed-media video exploration combining real footage via green screen with a 3D animated environment. Using AI-generated depth mapping, lighting along with screen space depth can be controlled independently in 3D space. This allows for easy, effective integration of footage with CGI.

Beyond the technical exploration, this collaboration is also an experiment in speed, quality, and blending different skill sets at different levels. The goal is to create a beautiful fantasy scenery with seamless harmony.

This project continues the exploration of combining real footage with a digital enviroment, focusing on speed. This project involves more usage of After Effects while combining 2D and 3D animated elements in Blender. The total time spent aside from footage capture is three days.

This project was fun. Mutual interest in theme and music quickened decision making and allowed us to blitz through in no time at all. In hindsight, team synergy will always be more important than technical effiency and I am grateful that this lesson was taught to me in the right way.

This is my contribution to an ongoing lightbox project produced by the CADRE club at San Jose State University.

This is a multi-layered light box where each layer is created by laser cutting a design made in Adobe Illustrator. The layers are then placed in a hand made box with soldered lights.
